Pre-screening Afùwàpẹ́!
Last Saturday we hosted a very special event: the pre-screening of my latest film Afùwàpẹ́. It was a small event for cast, crew and special guests to celebrate the upcoming release of this short film.
What is it about?
It is about Afùwàpẹ́, the mythological son of the Yoruba philosopher Ọ̀rúnmìlà. The latter has been mistranslated into history as a deity. This was discovered by the late Prof. Sophie Olúwọlé from Nigeria.
The film is really a prologue to the feature film I am developing based on Sophie Olúwọlé’s work and the Ifá corpus. We started working on it together in 2017. Unfortunately she unexpectedly passed away Christmas eve 2018. Still the project must go on.
We need to realise that Africa has its own philosophical heritage from way before colonialists landed. And not only that, the wisdom can help us all in our development.
The question is,
are you open to it?
We were honoured to have Prof. Olatunji Oyeshile in our midst to say some words about the film and the concepts it shows. The idea of “Orí” “Destiny” in traditional Yoruba thought. Also he stressed the importance of Intercultural Philosophy in our current times.
With this short film we are looking forward to raise funding to realise the feature film. We need all the support we can get to be able to tell this story. So would you be interested in seeing it? Make sure to subscribe to youtube, and follow us on instagram. Would you want to help get the film made by investing in it? Great – send me a mail and I’ll get back to you.
