Official premiere of Sophie in Lagos this November

Official premiere of Sophie in Lagos this November

In collaboration with performance artist Jelili Atiku I will premiere Sophie during a very special event in honour of her at Lagos Book & Art Festival 2022.

synopsis:

Sophie
Bọ́sẹ̀dé Olúwọlé
The Yorùbá Philosopher

This short documentary introduces the work of philosopher Sophie Bọ́sẹ̀dé Olúwọlé (1935-2018) who uncovered an ancient Yorùbá philosopher, incorrectly translated into ethnologist literature as a pagan god. Growing up she had been told there is no such thing as African philosophy. Undeterred, she went on to prove them wrong. All the while showing how the knowledge and wisdom is still accessible through an ancient system in binary code.

UPDATE: The festival takes place between 14 – 20 November this year. This event is scheduled to take place 18 Nov, please check out their website for more info.

And on the 17th of November we’ll have a screening at the University of Ibadan’s Thursday Film Series at 4pm.

Should you be around – make sure to pop by!

If not, no worries about missing out, I will post all about the event and my visit to Nigeria here, in this journal.
